Welcome to Year 1!

In Year 1, our class teachers are Mrs Spitzkowski, Miss Swain and Mrs Tahir.

We will be learning about lots of exciting things this year as we continue to support the children to develop their confidence, independence and resilience. 

Some of the topics include the history of schools and toys from the past, our local area and the United Kingdom in geography. You can see an overview of all the things we will be learning about this year by having a look at our long-term plan document attached at the bottom of this page. 

 

Design and Technology

In Design and Technology, we have been learning how to make moving story books.

First, we had to learn about lever and slider mechanisms. 

 

 

 

 

 

Then we created plans for our moving story books!

 

History

In history, we have been finding out more about toys from the past. 

We had a visit from Wakefield Museums. They brought lots of old toys in for us to examine and play with. 

We became detectives and learnt how to determine the age of toys. We found out which materials toys from different periods were made out of.
